Isn't there something extra special about leash-trained cats?

Thinking about skittish domestic cats, they seem like the norm in everyday life. Sure, they might be brave in the face of a bird perched outside the window, while they ekekek away pretending to be a menacong hunter, but… that's where it ends. That's why when you see a cat walking on a leash, it's almost jarring. Very impressive, for sure, but for a split second it feels out of place, like you've been transported to a parallel universe where… cats walk on leashes.

That's why we love it when people on the r/adventurecats community show the world how it's really done, like this one cat dad and his gorgeous cat. He didn't stop at posting the absolutely beautiful cat pictures with amazing nature views, but he also gave some very useful tips and tricks for people who want to leash-train their own cats.

That's why we love cat people, and definitely the online feline family - it's like everyone is at the ready to lend a hand and help. Whether a person needs advice on raising neonatal kittens, or someone else wants to know the best local food brand for senior cats - a cat person with an answer will always be there.   • Just off the bat, seeing the cat so chill in the backpack lets you know everything you need - this is either the right person to ask for advice on how to train your cat on taking hikes with you, or this is the most chill cat that ever lived, not caring one bit if you put them inside a backpack. Or both.

  • Whole 8 years of hoy with a cat is amazing as it is. But knowing this guy actually gets to share his hikes with his feline best friend, and for that long, makes us low-key jealous. But honestly, we're so happy to see it working for them. We're sure these first 8 years were just the beginning of the rest of their lives, taking hikes and journying, going on adventures together, and taking gorgeous pictures in stunning places.

  • The sheer curiosity coming off these pictures is amazing to witness. We already know cats are a very curious animal, but witnessing this trait coupled with the bravery to go outdoors and explore new places is truly impressive. Good on Poi, good on the cat dad.

    Ronan21 OP Lots of small steps and not forcing her ✗I had the backpack out for her to approach and explore on her own for about a week, occasionally putting treats in there for her to get as she pleased. After that I started luring her near, and then into it for short increments.

    Eventually added longer stretches of having her in there, and zipping it up for a second before releasing. Increasing time from there, starting to pick it up while she was in there. Putting it on back in the same process and walking my

    around. Throwing a treat into the back while she was on my shoulders so she'd hop in. When we were outside, if she got uncomfortable I'd put her on my shoulders and she'd crawl in on her own since she felt safer in there

    Ronan21 OP I don't think it affects her confidence or sensory tolerance, she has SO many clothes we've gotten her used to though that it's just part of the adventure for her. I'd definitely say it's not for every cat though, it's a long process to desensitize em that you gotta keep up with. Even then, not all cats will take to it

    Before this I would soak a bandana to help her cool down, but it just wasn't enough. She also hates having her fur drenched, so pouring water on her just made her upset with me. This has been our favorite solution so far
